When you own your own set of balls, eventually they will need cleaning to help them maintain their shiny good looks. Pretty bright and shiny balls are much more fun to play with than dull dirty balls.
Here are some suggestions for cleaning and shining up balls.
- Ball manufacturer-supplied cleaners. Recommended, although expensive, they are safe to use.
- Dish washing soap and water. Soak in soapy water for one hour, use a tooth brush to clean. Rinse in clear water and towel dry.
- Rub vigorously with a clean micro towel and polish with car wax.
- Rub the balls on a white board eraser to remove marks.
- Throw in the dishwasher with liquid soap (without any rinsing add-on product). Take out after washing and buff with a micro-fiber towel.
- Clean with rubbing alcohol and use toothpaste with a toothbrush. Rinse well and towel dry.
- Clean balls with any of the above, then polish with carnauba wax.
- Take down to a pool hall with a fancy ball cleaner and pay a couple of bucks for the service.
Not recommended:
- Wax remover
- Abrasive polishes
Talk with others who have their own balls to pick up other ideas. You generally want to use something that will do the job and allow the set to last a long, long time.
