This progressive exercise to improve your playing skills is in the book Drills & Exercises for Pool & Pocket Billiards.
This setup concentrates on stopping the cue ball from various distances (plus make the OB).
Instructions:
DONUTS: one of OB – one for CB.
- Position the CB and OB. Pocket the OB and make the CB stop with no forward or reverse movement after contact with OB.
- Re-spot OB and CB and repeat until you can consistently hold the CB shot after shot.
- Move to the next setup. Repeat until you own the shot.
Proof of competence: FIVE consecutive successful placements.
Suggestions: As distances increase, more and more reverse spin will be required to make sure that the CB is sliding on the cloth on contact with the OB. Generally, the more reverse spin on the CB, the slower the CB speed. Try with slower speeds while you add more reverse spin.
