CB location (M3), Target Diamond (M9)
Practice this TML pattern on your table until each one becomes a known and trustworthy shot.
10:30 Analysis
Notice that the cue ball comes back 1-1/2 diamonds to the side? This is the test that verifies you hit the ball with a precise 1 tip out, 10:30 position. The pattern works regardless of the ball's distance from the 1st rail. The ball can get a big ball in the 1st corner or the 2nd corner.
12:00 Analysis
Perfect straight back is perfect straight back. However, if the target ball is slightly to the side and behind the start position - a slight angle on the 1st rail will give you at least two chances of making a good hit.
1:30 Analysis
Notice that the cue ball comes back 1-1/2 diamonds to the side? This is the test that verifies you are hitting the ball with a precise 1 tip out, 10:30 position. Also notice that this pattern is identical regardless of the ball's distance from the 1st rail. The ball will come back across the middle of the table, so any target ball will get hit.
Other Sized Tables
For 8 foot tables, the same type of pattern requires about 1-1/4 tips out from center to get the paths shown. For 7 foot tables, 1-1/2 tip out from center is necessary to follow the pattern. The distances on small tables are less, so when the cue ball travels around in a trapezoid pattern, the rail contacts are more distorted.
