CB location (M5), Target Diamond (Q5)
Practice this TML pattern on your table until each one becomes a known and trustworthy shot.
10:30 & 1:30 Analysis
Critical to making this a consistent shot is 1 cue tip out from center. Given the distance, the cue stick was aiming at the diamond because there was enough cloth and time for the squirt and swerve to bring the cue ball back for a straight-on hit on the diamond.
When the ball comes into the 2nd rail at a shallow angle, the angle out tends to be smaller. There is less of a rebound on shallow angle hits into a rail.
This is a basic straight back and forth. Shots like this are often recommended as a tool to train yourself to play a true center shot. That's a bunch of nonsense - since even a 1/8" off of perfect perpendicular (90 degrees) is difficult to achieve. When you have to shoot straight at a rail - find a target past the table and aim at the target.
Both the 1:30 and 10:30 shots are more difficult because these require the use of a mechanical bridge. There's no other way to shoot this shot. This makes the shot much more difficult to shoot with predictable results. The slightest deviation in the tip/ball contact will have different results. If you must get precise results on the shot, take a LOT of time to make sure your stroke is accurate.
Other Sized Tables
For 8 foot tables, the same type of pattern requires about 1-1/4 tips out from center to get the paths shown. For 7 foot tables, 1-1/2 tip out from center is necessary to follow the pattern. The distances on small tables are less, so when the cue ball travels around in a trapezoid pattern, the rail contacts are more distorted.
