(FAQ) Game Rules – 2 Cushion Pool

(About the Author)

These series of “Game Rules’ provide rules of many different games for the pool table. The rules here have been simplified from the official versions – to make them a little easier to understand.

There are other games that have been invented, copyrighted and generally available to the playing public. Web searches will turn these up and the rules printed out for use.

2 Cushion Pool

Opponents

Two to three players.

Balls

Object balls 1, 2, and 3 (no cue ball).

Racking

One ball on foot spot, 2 ball on head spot, 3 ball on center spot.

Breaking

First player uses 1 ball as cue ball, second player uses 2 ball, third player uses 3 ball.

Regular play

Inning ends when no point is scored.

Basic rules of 3 cushion billiards are used, except that only 2 cushions must be contacted. There are two ways to score:

  • Cue ball contacts one of the other two balls, then two or more rails, and then contacts the third ball.
  • Cue ball contacts two or more rails and then contacts the other two balls.

If a legal point was made and a ball is pocketed or off the table, it is spotted and playing continues.

Fouls

No general fouls.

Variations

1 cushion contact instead of 2.

3 cushion contact instead of 2.

These adjustments can also be used as handicaps.
