(H&S) Hustles & Sharks – Start and Stop

(About the Author)

Learn how to Beat the Sharks

If you expect your match to go smoothly through to the completion with a winner (hopefully you) and a loser (hopefully your opponent), this shark can bother you.

On the shot, he sets up and prepares to play a shot, even to the practice strokes. Suddenly, he pauses, seems to think for a moment, and then gets up from the shot and assumes the pose of a statue, staring at the table. After a short period of time, pre-shot routine begins again.

This can think, start, stop process can be used in many ways, including:

  • On an occasional shot
  • During every shot
  • Several times during the same shot.

Response

There’s not too much you can do to prevent your opponent from initiating this series of hiccups in the flow of the game.

In a formalized environment – league play, tournaments, etc. – you can invoke the time clock. In an informal environment, requesting that he not delay the game too much might help.

One effective response is to simply walk away from the table. Get a drink, go to the restroom or simply engage someone else in a conversation.
